My progress on UW3 August 29, 2006

Wow! there is a lot of things to go over. I have been able to listen to the Jay’s recording on “Bike Ride through the Blogosphere” That was a fun trip. I took notes on all the leads that you gave us and am lost thinking about all the places to go.
I have slowed down enough to catch my breath and set up an account on pageflakes and at del.icio.us. Really nice sites to hang out at.
I have been having a lot of fun creating a teaching tool for my students in my “computers for hairdresser” class. (ok so it is not for hairdressers but an intro class for students who don’t care about computers and the Internet or have a phobia about the same)
I am using a wiki at wetpaint. The URL is www.dayscis.wetpaint.com check it out. I received great reviews from my first class I used it on. It is a work in progress and I have not worked my way through all of it yet.
The information that I am picking up in UW3 is pertinent to my own life in several ways, it is scratching an itch that I have been ignoring for years, my teaching life, (above statement) and my own educational life. I am using this class to transfer into my master’s on Ed Leadership at Minnesota State U. Mankato.
Like everyone else I just need more time. However I am one interview away from ending my job search. So now it will be learning a new job rather than looking for one.

Why Unworkshop August 6, 2006

I have found that I need to challenge myself or it is too easy to accept the status quo. I have come to a crossroads, in my job and in my schooling. I like to think of my self as staying on top of things. However I have found that I have been slipping into apathy because I am over whelmed by the shear number of choices.
I have chosen and the choice is education over technology. I have skills in both and I have tried to serve both and it has not been working out. When I was given the chance to sign up for this Unworkshop I jumped at it because it offered some of the things that I have wanted to do but have put off because I could not decide on which way to go.
Here I am and trying to figure out these blogs is a bit of a challenge in and of itself. I made my first post and than I went back and edited it and added a file to my edit and those items are no where to be seen. I am sure that it is some little thing that I have done that will reveal it’s self to me later. (hopefully sooner than later).
This is proving to be a challenge to me in the details. They always seem to trick me up. How I have made it so far in computers is a mystery to me. I like them and fancy myself a mild mannered geek of sorts. For now it is off to review the bus trip of the first week and to see where my solo bike trip takes me.

I am steaming my way through the unworkshop. There is so much to take in and digest. It is hard to get it all in.
I read “Deliberative Dialogue to Expand Civic Engagement: What Kind of Talk Does Democracy Need?” by Martha L. McCoy and Patrick L. Scully. That was interesting. I severed on a Planning Commission several years ago for a small community that is a suburb of St. Paul MN. (For the non- natives that is the Capital of Minnesota). As I pondered my way through the article I was skeptical of if these ideas would be anything more than ideas. I was impressed with the end of the article. It may take a little more planning on the front end but there are ways to improve community involvement by using Internet based tools.
